The Cellar

A wrought-iron wind marker flag with astral symbols has stood on the Fornello tower for centuries; 3 eight-pointed stars and an ellipsoidal planet in the center. The history of this flag is unknown. Perhaps it is a trace of the former owners, the ancient Sanseverino family, Princes of Naples, noted alchemists and scholars of the stars. We like to interpret it by leaving out the mysterious part, giving the stars a special meaning. The star is meant to indicate the cardinal points of taste: north and south, east and west. The four fundamental flavors of a wine perceived by the taste buds: bitter, sour, sweet and salty and the various nuances that make a tasting even more complex and interesting. This flag, so special and full of symbolism, has now become our logo and corporate brand. Legend has it that the tower is inhabited by the ghost of a young noblewoman who was burned at the stake on charges of witchcraft and who occasionally still walks through the ancient rooms of the palace. Guests see her mostly after a visit to the estate's cellars and after a few good glasses of Torrefornello wines.
